Breast augmentation (“augmentation mammaplasty“) is known to provide women with several body contouring benefits. Saline or silicone gel breast implants can:
There are various factors to evaluate in regards to breast augmentation, and the incision location is one of the most important. In order to create natural-looking results and inconspicuous scarring, Dr. Andreasen offers three types of incisions: around the areola (pigmented skin surrounding the nipple), under the breasts in the crease, or through the armpit. The type of implant you choose, saline or silicone gel, will greatly weigh in on which incision is the most appropriate.
Ideal candidates for breast augmentation are those who:
Along with breast enlargement, Dr. Andreasen also specializes in breast lift surgery (“mastopexy“). Patients wanting to regain the youthful bustline they once had before pregnancy, multiple childbirths, breastfeeding, and/or simply as the result of aging have often combined saline or silicone gel implants with a breast lift procedure for optimal results.
Dr. Andreasen has been performing breast augmentation and breast enhancement procedures in the Inland Empire – San Bernardino County area for years. Dr. Andreasen’s Inland Empire, California office is centrally located to also serve the communities of the San Gabriel Valley, Rancho Cucamonga, and Ontario, California (CA).
Breast augmentation has evolved into a procedure that is much more than simply placing an implant into a chest and hoping for an adequate result. With the many different options that exist in today’s plastic surgeon’s armamentarium, it is important for a patient to discuss and understand these options so that she can choose what is best for her at this important time in her life.
We understand completely that breast augmentation is not a perfect surgery. Complications can occur and reoperations (breast augmentation revison) are not uncommon even in the best of hands. Your surgeon should be honest and up front about these important issues so that you are not surprised as your augmentation changes over time.
I enjoy interacting with and talking with people as much as I enjoy operating on them. During your visit with me we will talk openly about what science and experience have taught us about augmentation, breast lifting, or simultaneous lifting and augmentation. The many different options for implant type, implant position, access incision, and implant size and shape will be discussed to your full understanding. Long-term effects of implants on your skin and tissues will be emphasized, and appropriate sizing recommendations will be made.
Although we may make some recommendations for you, this is truly an elective surgery and you will make these decisions with us after understanding the trade-offs, risks, benefits, and possible complications of each choice.
Although an imperfect surgery, augmentation is certainly an exciting one. After hundreds of successful augmentation procedures, I still get anxious before every surgery–focusing completely on making your surgical and post-operative experience a positive one. I know and accept that I am not the only surgeon in my community. But, I am committed to the pursuit of excellence in plastic surgery.
Together with my staff, we will try to achieve your goals and expectations to the best of our abilities. I will do everything possible to ensure your safety in the operating room. And, we will treat you with the respect and professionalism that make people return to us often and refer their friends and family. Thank you for your trust.
Thousands of women each year turn to breast augmentation (“augmentation mammaplasty“) to enhance their size and shape. As the most frequently used implants in the United States, saline breast implants are an available option at the practice of Dr. Andreasen. In order to be fully prepared to undergo any plastic surgery procedure, patients must properly educate themselves in the process. With great care and concern, Dr. Andreasen spends as much time as needed when explaining the various factors involved with breast augmentation using saline implants.
Saline breast implants have an exterior shell made up of elastomer silicone, and filled with a sterile saltwater solution. This saltwater solution is similar to that which is administered for intravenous fluids. Some of the advantages of saline are revolved around its safety; should implant leakage occur, the saline is absorbed by the body. This type of implant also offers two shell surfaces (smooth or textured), expandable (can be adjusted during surgery) implants, as well as prefilled (fixed volume of saline) implants.
Patients have three incision locations: around the areola (pigmented skin around the nipple), underneath the breast in the crease, or through the armpit. Prefilled saline implants cannot be inserted through the belly button, which is known as the “transumbilical incision” or the “TUBA incision.” Depending on the patient’s preference, our breast surgeon will put in place a personalized treatment plan to meet her needs. The incision scar may be a bit longer at the point of incision because of the implant is already prefilled; however, it depends on the size of the implant.
Patients should also be aware of the risks that are associated with breast enlargement surgery prior to undergoing the procedure. Implant rupture, changes in nipple sensitivity, and capsular contracture, are some of the potential risks associated with breast augmentation. Saline breast implants, specifically, are more prone to rippling and less natural-feeling as compared to silicone gel implants.
Silicone gel implants became FDA approved in November 2006, providing women with more options regarding breast enhancement surgeries. Patients seeking enlarged breasts, better balance, and more attractive shape will benefit from Dr. Andreasen’s expertise in performing breast augmentation (“augmentation mammaplasy“) utilizing silicone gel. It is important to be as well-educated as possible before committing to any surgical procedure; therefore, Dr. Andreasen encourages patients to schedule an appointment at his practice to fully discuss your options.
The FDA-approved silicone implants are made of a thick, viscose cohesive gel, which many patients opt for due to its natural feel. Dr. Andreasen will assess the patient to determine if silicone gel is better suited for her (versus saline). This type of implant is typically beneficial for women with minimal breast tissue. As compared to saline, which also offers expandable implants, it comes pre-filled with silicone gel already inside the implant. Silicone gel implants offer two shell surfaces: smooth or textured.

Because silicone gel implants come prefilled, it cannot be inserted through the belly button, which is known as the “transumbilical incision” or the “TUBA incision.” The incision scar may be a bit longer at the point of incision because of the implant is already prefilled; however, it depends on the size of the implant.

Implant rupture, changes in nipple sensitivity, and capsular contracture are some of the potential risks associated with breast augmentation. The risks associated with silicone gel implant leakage include pain, tingling, swelling, numbness, or burning sensation. There is no proven study that shows silicone is directly linked to autoimmune diseases.
