Woman in a black bra

Beauty is a diverse kaleidoscope that can’t be simply defined. The same idea applies to breast augmentation. This procedure allows women to enhance their breast appearance based on their anatomy, concerns, and desired result. If you’re considering breast augmentation, you may want natural-looking breasts that suit your unique physical attributes.

Breast size, volume, shape, implant type, placement, and incision location can all influence your final result. Rather than relying on one “best” technique, natural-looking breasts are achievable by selecting options that work together with your existing breast tissue and body proportions.

Breast Implant Type

At Dr. Andreasen’s practice, he offers various options for breast implants, and each comes with its own benefits.

Saline Implants

Saline implants have an outer silicone shell filled with sterile salt water once inserted into the breast. Dr. Andreasen can adjust the fluid volume during surgery to improve symmetry. If the shell tears or breaks, the implant rapidly deflates as the body absorbs the salt water, making a rupture easier to detect. Because they are filled after placement, saline implants can also be inserted through a smaller incision, which can result in a smaller scar.

However, saline implants may feel firmer than silicone gel implants and more prone to visible rippling, particularly in patients with thinner breast tissue.

Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are a popular option for women who want natural results that complement their bodies. These implants have a durable outer silicone shell filled with a cohesive gel. They are designed to imitate the look and movement of natural breast tissue and are less likely to show rippling. This may be a good option for women with less existing breast tissue.

Gummy bear implants are a type of breast implant that’s filled with a thick, highly cohesive silicone gel that maintains its form while still providing a soft feel.

Motiva® Breast Implants

Dr. Andreasen also offers Motiva® breast implants, a modern option designed with newer responsiveness and aesthetic goals in mind compared with traditional implants. Options include:

  • Motiva SmoothSilk® Round: Designed to provide a fuller, rounder appearance with more upper-breast fullness.
  • Motiva SmoothSilk Ergonomix®: Designed to respond to body position and movement. The implant appears rounder when lying down and develops a more sloped, teardrop-like silhouette when standing.

For patients who want subtle enhancement with a natural appearance, Motiva® breast implants may be worth discussing. Overall, Dr. Andreasen considers your anatomy, preferred breast shape, and desired fullness when recommending an implant.

Does Breast Implant Shape Matter?

Yes. What makes breast implants look natural often comes down to shape, because implant shape can influence where fullness appears and how the breast transitions from the chest wall.

Traditional round implants can create fullness throughout the breast and may provide more volume in the upper portion. Teardrop implants create a gentle slope through the upper breast with more fullness toward the lower breast. Motiva Ergonomix® offers another approach by changing its profile with body movement rather than maintaining one fixed appearance.

Your chest width, natural breast shape, tissue thickness, and preferred amount of upper-pole fullness all help determine which option may look most harmonious for your frame.

How Do Implant Size and Profile Affect a Natural Result?

Implant size should complement your proportions rather than simply add the most volume possible. Several factors affect size selection, including your body shape and overall proportions. A petite patient may achieve a noticeable enhancement with a smaller implant, while a broader chest may need different implant dimensions to create balance. Dr. Andreasen specifically considers personal preferences when helping patients choose the right implant for different body types while keeping the result balanced.

Profile describes how far an implant projects forward from the chest. Lower, moderate, and higher profiles change the relationship between breast width and projection.

Which Breast Implant Placement Will Look the Most Natural?

Implant placement can affect breast slope, implant visibility, and how natural the final breast shape appears. Dr. Andreasen offers several placement options:

  • Subglandular placement: The implant is positioned beneath the breast tissue but above the pectoral muscle. This may work well for patients with enough natural tissue coverage.
  • Submuscular placement: The implant is positioned beneath the pectoral muscle. Added muscle coverage can help soften visible implant edges, reduce visible rippling, and create a more gradual breast slope, especially in women with thinner tissue, while possibly lowering the risk of capsular contracture.
  • Partial submuscular placement: The implant sits beneath the breast tissue and partially beneath the chest muscle.

Are There Non-implant Options for Achieving Natural Breasts?

Breast implants are not the only option for breast enhancement and maintaining a natural appearance. Depending on your concerns and desired degree of change, a breast lift or a fat transfer can also provide a natural-looking result without using an implant.

Breast Lift

If you are satisfied with your natural breast volume, but bothered by sagging or a loss of shape, a breast lift may be worth it. Instead of adding volume with an implant, a breast lift reshapes and raises the existing breast tissue to create a more youthful appearance. Women who have finished pregnancy, breastfed, or notice age-related changes may benefit from this procedure.

Fat Transfer

A breast augmentation fat transfer uses liposuction to remove fat from one area of the body (e.g., the thighs or abdomen) and inject it into the breasts, while also contouring the donor area to enhance body shape. The result feels natural since the procedure uses your own tissue rather than an implant, creating a soft feel and natural-looking results instead of a dramatic increase in breast fullness. It is generally favorable for women who want a modest increase in breast size and have enough donor fat available.

For some patients, an implant-free approach may offer exactly the understated change they desire. Others may need an implant, breast lift, or a combination approach to achieve their preferred shape and volume.

Which Breast Augmentation Technique Creates the Best Natural Breast?

No single formula guarantees the most natural-looking result for every patient. Instead, it often means individualized choices to support a natural-looking breast augmentation. For many women, silicone implants—including Motiva Ergonomix®—may provide similar qualities to natural breast tissue. At the same time, another combination may be more appropriate for women with thicker breast tissue, a wider chest, different projection goals, or breast sagging.

This is why breast augmentation is highly customized. A natural result ultimately comes from matching the implant’s size, shape, profile, placement, and incision approach to your anatomy and aesthetic goals.
