" THE INLAND EMPIRE'S PREMIER BREAST SURGEON "
Pregnancy and weight loss can often lead to stretched abdominal muscles and loose, sagging skin in the stomach area. Although you may engage in regular exercise and maintain a healthy diet, ideal results are not always attained through these natural means. In many circumstances, a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure may be the best option to correct a protruding abdomen – tummy tuck surgery. Medically termed “abdominoplasty,” this procedure can help a patient achieve a flatter, better-contoured midsection.
The tummy tuck procedure is highly personalized to meet each patient’s individual anatomy and desired outcome. Because no two patients are alike, it is important to carefully examine the patient and suggest the most beneficial technique. Patients may undergo a standard (full) abdominoplasty, partial (mini) tummy tuck, extended tummy tuck, or circumferential abdominoplasty, which is based on the amount of excess skin present. This cosmetic procedure is most appropriate for patients who are no longer planning on future pregnancy as this will re-stretch the abdominal muscles.
While a long incision is made in the lower abdomen from hipbone to hipbone, the mini tummy tuck only requires an incision to be made right above the pubic line. The extended method requires incisions to go further in the lower back, as the circumferential technique has incisions all around the torso. The next step is to tighten the abdominal muscles in order to achieve a more slender shape. This is followed by re-draping the skin over the muscles and removing any excess. Oftentimes, because the muscles are no longer protruding, the skin is pulled down and the belly button is no longer in its original position. This requires making a new opening for the navel, which can help produce a more pleasing and youthful appearance.
Following the procedure, patients have bandages placed on their abdomen in order to help the skin and muscles heal properly. Also, patients must be sure to refrain from strenuous activities for approximately four to six weeks. To ensure a complication-free recovery, patients should follow all post-surgery instructions.
